There are two ways to resolve this behavior:

  • Update to QPS 7.4 or QPS 7.5. When you do this, you should also update to QuarkXPress or QuarkCopyDesk 7.4 or 7.5, depending on the version of QPS to which you update.
  • Ensure that QPS 7.31 User names do not contain umlauts or accent characters etc. If so, then change the User Names so that they do not include special characters.

Note: Changing the names (via QPS Connect Client) should be done while you are not in production and all Users should be logged off. However, if this is not possible in your QPS environment, Users should log off and then log on after the User Name has been changed.

Note: There is a side effect of changing names while users are logged on: Users (all users, not only the one whose name is changed) may not be able to check in the project currently checked out.

The crash occurs due to a defect in the QPS XTensions for QuarkXPress and QuarkCopyDesk 7.31 where international characters in User Names, such as umlauts or accented characters, are causing errors in the XTensions. This defect is fixed in QPS 7.4.
