Background:This behavior can be caused by connecting to the printer with the wrong communication protocol. In this particular case, the printer does not “understand” any protocol other than the Line Printer Daemon (LPD). To resolve the issue, follow the steps listed below.




  1. Mac OS 10.4.x (Tiger): go to Mac Hdd\Applications\Utilities\Printer Setup Utility

    Mac OS 10.5.x (Leopard): go to System Preferences and select “Print and Fax”



    (In case you encounter the same issue with 10.7.x or 10.8.x OSX, the location remains the same as 10.5.x OSX)

  2. Remove the HP Printer from the printer list.

  3. Reinstall the same printer with the Protocol option set to Line Printer Demon (LPD)

  4. Re-launch QuarkXPress and now print the layout.
