Background: This behavior occurs when certain third party applications are running in the system, some faulty extensions conflicting or permissions issue while launching QuarkXPress.

Solution 1:
Kindly recreate the XPress Preferences by following below steps:

  1. Windows XP: Navigate to C:\ Documents and Settings\ {current user}\ Application Data\ Quark and rename the QuarkXPress 9 folder as Old_QuarkXPress 9. (Always rename the folder so that, if required, customer can always revert to his old preferences)

    Windows Vista/7: Navigate to C:\ User\ {current user}\ App Data\ Quark and rename the QuarkXPress 9 folder as Old_QuarkXPress 9. (Always rename the folder so that, if required, customer can always revert back to his old preferences)
  2. Launch QuarkXPress.( If this doesn't work follow Solution 2)

Solution 2:
We need to isolate the extensions by following below steps:

  1. Windows XP: Navigate to Local disk C:\ Program files \ Quark \QuarkXPress 9 \Xtensions
    Windows Vista/7: Navigate to Local disk C:\ Program files(x86) \ Quark \QuarkXPress 9 \Xtensions
  2. Drag all the extensions from Xtensions folder to XTensions Disabled folder.
  3. Launch QuarkXPress.( If this doesn't work follow Solution 3)

Solution 3:

1. Create a new user with Administartive privilges.

2. Launch QuarkXPress.
